How Many FC 27 Coins Do You Need? Squad Budgets Explained

How Many FC 27 Coins Do You Need? Squad Budgets Explained
Most people pick a coin amount by picking a round number, then find out three days later it was the wrong one. Either they bought too little and the squad is half built, or they bought a lot and spent it badly in week one when prices were at their peak.
This is how to work it out from the squad backwards, which is the only order that gives you a number you can trust.
Key Takeaways
- Work from the squad you want, not from a round number.
- Launch week prices are the highest of the year, so the same squad costs less in November.
- Budget for consumables and SBC fodder, not just the eleven starters. It is a bigger share than people expect.
- Buying once is cleaner and usually cheaper than buying four times.
Start With the Squad, Not the Number
The question is never "how many coins should I buy". It is "what do I want my team to look like, and what does that cost today".
Write down the eleven players you actually want. Check what each one costs on the market right now. Add them up. Add 25 percent on top for the parts nobody budgets for. That total is your answer, and it will be different from anyone else's because it depends on your players and the day you are asking.
The reason it cannot be a fixed table is that player prices move every single day. A card at 300k in launch week can be 90k by mid October. Any guide that gives you exact player prices for the season is out of date the week it was written.
Rough Budget by Squad Tier
These are broad ranges, meant for planning, not promises. Early in a game cycle everything sits at the top of its range; by mid season the same squad is considerably cheaper.
Getting started, a solid gold squad. Around 100k to 300k. Decent chemistry, playable rated cards, nothing special. Enough to compete in the early weeks while everyone else is also on gold cards.
A competitive squad with a few standouts. Roughly 500k to 1.5 million. This is where most people land. Meta full-backs, a striker who finishes, a midfield that does not get overrun.
A strong meta squad. Around 2 to 5 million. Multiple in-form or special cards, the players everyone knows by name, positions filled by the right card rather than the affordable one.
A top tier squad. 5 million and up, often well up. Icons, high-rated specials, and the top of the market. In launch week this range is effectively uncapped, because supply of the best cards is tiny.
Ranges this wide are honest rather than vague. The same eleven players genuinely swing by a factor of three between September and January.
What People Forget to Budget For
The starting eleven is not the bill. Everything below adds up to roughly another quarter on top.
Substitutes and the rest of the 23. You need bodies for chemistry, for objectives, and for when someone is out of position.
Consumables. Contracts, position changers, chemistry styles. Individually cheap, constantly needed, and a chemistry style on a key player can cost more than a squad player.
SBC fodder. Squad Building Challenges eat rated cards continuously. This is where a surprising share of most people's coins actually goes, and it is almost never in the plan.
Room to make mistakes. You will buy a player, dislike him, sell him at a loss after tax. That is normal. Budget for it rather than being annoyed by it.
EA's 5% tax. Every sale on the transfer market loses 5%. If you plan to trade your way up, the tax is a real drag on the plan.
Adding 25 percent on top of your eleven-player total covers all of this reasonably well.
Timing Changes the Answer
The same squad costs different amounts depending on when you buy, and the difference is not small.
Launch week is the most expensive point of the year, for both players and coins. Supply of coins in the economy is at its lowest and demand is at its highest. You are paying a premium for being early.
October and November are usually the calmest stretch. Coins have entered circulation, launch hype has faded, and player prices have found a floor.
Promo weeks tighten things again. TOTY in January and TOTS in spring pull coins out of the economy as people chase packs.
If you want to be competitive in the first fortnight, you pay the launch premium. That is a legitimate choice, it just should be a choice rather than a surprise.
Buy Once, Not Five Times
Splitting a purchase into several small orders costs you more in three separate ways.
Larger orders get better rates. Our bulk pricing starts at ten million coins, and the per-million rate drops.
Every delivery is a separate login to your account. Fewer deliveries is a cleaner pattern and less exposure, as covered in is it safe to buy FC 27 coins.
And each repeat purchase is another chance to buy at a worse moment. Working out the number once, properly, beats topping up in a hurry three times.
A Worked Example
Say you want a solid competitive squad in October, not launch week.
Eleven players you actually want, priced on the market that day: 800,000. Add 25 percent for everything above: 200,000. That covers seven bench players at roughly 110,000, consumables and chemistry styles at 40,000, and about 50,000 of SBC fodder and room to change your mind.
Total: one million. So you buy 1 million and you are not scrambling.
Buy a round 800,000 instead, because that was the number you had in your head for the eleven, and you finish the season's first week with no bench, no chemistry styles and nothing to put into an SBC.
Our order configurator has a slider, so you can set the amount you actually calculated instead of the nearest preset. The live price for that exact amount shows before you commit.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many coins do I need for a good FC 27 squad?
For a competitive squad, budget roughly 500,000 to 1.5 million, depending on how early in the season you are buying. Early in the cycle the same squad sits at the top of that range.
Is 1 million FC 27 coins enough?
For most players in the first months, yes. It builds a squad with good chemistry and a few genuinely strong players. It will not buy a meta team in launch week.
How many coins for an Icon?
Icons are the top of the market and vary enormously by card and by moment. Mid-tier icons run into the millions, top ones far beyond that, and prices swing hardest in the first weeks after release.
Should I buy coins all at once or in stages?
Once, generally. Larger orders get a better rate, involve fewer account logins, and stop you topping up at bad moments.
Do coin prices change during the season?
Yes, constantly. Highest around launch and major promos, lowest in the quiet stretches. Our configurator shows the current price rather than a figure from months ago.
Work Out Your Number First
Price your eleven, add a quarter, and buy that. It takes ten minutes and it is the difference between a finished squad and one that is four players short.
